EV charger installs
A Level 2 charger needs a dedicated 240V circuit sized for the charger, and your panel needs room for it. An electrician checks the load first so you do not overload your service.
What the job usually includes
- âĸPanel and load check (sometimes a load calculation) before anything is installed
- âĸA dedicated 240V circuit and breaker sized to the charger's rating
- âĸHardwired Level 2 charger or a properly rated receptacle for plug-in units
- âĸOutdoor-rated equipment and connections for garages, carports and driveways
Before you call
- âĸTake a photo of your panel label and main breaker (the AI can read it)
- âĸKnow your charger model, or ask the electrician which ones they recommend
- âĸIf your panel is full or 100A, ask about a service upgrade (see Panel & service upgrades)
Permit and inspection rules, fees and timelines vary by county and by city. Many cities (for example Boca Raton, West Palm Beach or Jupiter) run their own building departments, while unincorporated areas use the county.
